Stop requesting save changes to document template

Word 2013 insists on asking if I want to save the document template, or in the case of a custom template, save that named template.  I have followed the recommendations for turning this "feature" off, but it persists.  I have unchecked the box labeled "Prompt Before Saving Normal Template**"** in both the normal and the custom templates.  No change.  It still prompts me to save.  I worry that there is something wrong with my installation (Word also hangs if I open a folder and double-click on a document to open it.  I have learned that I can right-click and select "Restore" to get the document to open, but this seems to suggest a problem with the program or the installation).

    I solved this by uninstalling the Bluetooth program, which I had no use for.

    The answers given here are awful. The fire alarm analogy is stupid. If your fire alarm is put out of work, what's the worst that could happen? A fire goes off, there is no alarm, and your house and perhaps the whole city burns down.

    If your Microsoft Word template changes without your knowing it, what's the worst that could happen? Uh, not much, besides the Microsoft Word template changing without your knowing it.

    You are a godsend.

    My reply is specific to Office 2013 and Custom Templates.

    To create a custom template:

    (1) New Document

    (2) Make your changes

    (3) Save As Word Template (*.dotx)

    If you save your template to a local folder it should go into a folder named "Custom Office Templates" in your "My Documents" folder. Let's say you name it "MyTemplate.dotx".

    Open the folder and find MyTemplate.dotx. Right-click it. Check the "Read-Only" check box.

    Problem solved.

    There is no reason to mark it Read-Only. When used properly, a new document will be created based on the template. Your instructions are clear and do tell how to create a template.

    However, they do not have anything to do with the original question, which is why a prompt pops up about saving changes to the template. That is a very different issue. It has been addressed and answered in this thread.

    I wanted to chime in here, since I had the exact same problem : Word 2013 asking me if I wanted to save changes to custom Template every time I attempt to save a document created with that custom Template. On a Levono computer, that Bluetooth trick worked. No longer do I have this message. I did not believe it at first when reading that solution on the thread, but tried it and it works! So it seems to not only be a Dell thing.

    It is not just a "bluetooth thing" but applies to many Add-Ins. Generally, COM add-ins more than template Add-Ins. Add-Ins in Microsoft Word
