Stop requesting save changes to document template

Word 2013 insists on asking if I want to save the document template, or in the case of a custom template, save that named template. I have followed the recommendations for turning this "feature" off, but it persists. I have unchecked the box labeled "Prompt Before Saving Normal Template**"** in both the normal and the custom templates. No change. It still prompts me to save. I worry that there is something wrong with my installation (Word also hangs if I open a folder and double-click on a document to open it. I have learned that I can right-click and select "Restore" to get the document to open, but this seems to suggest a problem with the program or the installation).

I wanted to chime in here, since I had the exact same problem : Word 2013 asking me if I wanted to save changes to custom Template every time I attempt to save a document created with that custom Template. On a Levono computer, that Bluetooth trick worked. No longer do I have this message. I did not believe it at first when reading that solution on the thread, but tried it and it works! So it seems to not only be a Dell thing.

I created a custom letterhead template. I use it to create a generic letter. I make minor changes in the generic letter, customizing it for specific recipients. Every single time I save a modification (and I constantly save my documents while working on them) I get the "do you want to save changes to the document template" query. The document I am saving is a .docx NOT a template. There must be some way to distinguish between saving changes to a template (which I rarely want to do) and saving changes to a .docx document, which I always want to do, becasue I am working on it.

This issue is very annoying. For certain if Word is gong to change any template I want the warning. But I am not working on the template!

The questions asked by Doug Robbins and Stefan Blom are pertinent and answers will help you solve your problem. The thing is, any document is connected to a template and changes in a document can be transferred to the template.

Which template (*.dot or *.dotx or *.dotm) is attached to this document? What kind of changes are you making in the document (as some modifications do involve the template)?

How are you using the template to create a generic letter? Where do you have the template stored? Are you using File>New and selecting the template?
