Official Word Starter update?

When I opened up my laptop this morning (8/16/14) there was a pop-up on the screen telling me  there was an update available for Microsoft Word Starter 2010 and asking me if I wanted to download it.  It did not look like the typical Windows or Office update notification.  I closed the pop-up and opened Windows update and ran it.  There were some updates available, but none that said they were for Word Starter.  IS there a new Update for Word Starter or is this someone trying to get me to download a virus?

Hi everyone,

We heard back from the product group. The dialog is expected for a legitimate Office 2010 starter update. It appears for click to run scenarios where the path is missing a piece of information between the build that the user is running on and the latest available build.

The august update that was pulled is a Windows update, not an Office update.

     And if mine already is running the latest update from July 2014, why am I still being asked to run this?

    According to Office Starter 2010 the most current version is 14.0.7130.5000from August 2014.

    You and I are both running the previous version from July.

    I'm assuming that this update would bring our versions up to date, though I prefer to err on the side of caution and will wait until I hear an official response from someone at Microsoft.

    If anyone has already clicked OK and run the Click To Run update would you please post what version you now have installed?

    I'd say there seems to be still some uncertainty. I have not yet heard anything official. Audio51's message after yours does seem to throw further suspicion on the popup.

    My feeling now is that the message I'm seeing ("An update for Microsoft Office Starter 2010 - English is now available online") is genuine. See my post at the link below for reasons why

    However, I too would very much like official confirmation of this from Microsoft, as well as an explanation of why this message is suddenly popping up after years of dormancy.
