When I opened up my laptop this morning (8/16/14) there was a pop-up on the screen telling me there was an update available for Microsoft Word Starter 2010 and asking me if I wanted to download it. It did not look like the typical Windows or Office update notification. I closed the pop-up and opened Windows update and ran it. There were some updates available, but none that said they were for Word Starter. IS there a new Update for Word Starter or is this someone trying to get me to download a virus?

Hi everyone,
We heard back from the product group. The dialog is expected for a legitimate Office 2010 starter update. It appears for click to run scenarios where the path is missing a piece of information between the build that the user is running on and the latest available build.
The august update that was pulled is a Windows update, not an Office update.

So your post of Oct.30, 2014 didn't answer my question at all except for citing DKuy's sentences in his post, even though you tried to do so in the first place.
All the questions/problems reported in this thread are related to the legitimacy of this pop-up window. In the circumstances where MVPs are incapable of clarifying the questions, it is Microsoft's business to clarify all the questions and fix all the problems reported in this thread. Simply launching another thread didn't help at all.

I have another idea.... How about you Doug, go and start another thread and let someone from Microsoft start answering the question that you keep avoiding. I keep hearing a lot of trash but no clear cut answers. If anyone goes back and looks, all you will find is double talk from a couple of lonely old MVPs looking for anyone that will listen to them... who else has nothing to do with their time but be a MVP or a community moderator for a chat group?
If this is a Microsoft Community chat group and this is their screw up, then they should be on here helping clean up their mess, not some lonely old guy who hasn't answered the questions. He just keeps side stepping the answers and giving double talk.... GIVE ME MICROSOFT
If Microsoft screwed up then let them fix their mess. because if they messed up someone's computer then they should have to fix it... I know that it won't be Doug....
