When I opened up my laptop this morning (8/16/14) there was a pop-up on the screen telling me there was an update available for Microsoft Word Starter 2010 and asking me if I wanted to download it. It did not look like the typical Windows or Office update notification. I closed the pop-up and opened Windows update and ran it. There were some updates available, but none that said they were for Word Starter. IS there a new Update for Word Starter or is this someone trying to get me to download a virus?

We heard back from the product group. The dialog is expected for a legitimate Office 2010 starter update. It appears for click to run scenarios where the path is missing a piece of information between the build that the user is running on and the latest available build.
The august update that was pulled is a Windows update, not an Office update.

Doug, I still have doubts about this update... If it is legitimate and not bogus, then why don't they make it look real? I'm sure that they have the tech people to make it look like they made it. And yes... why can't they be clear and say "this is a Microsoft product and we should hit OK and down load it" or better yet, put it in a auto update... 10 pages of chat about it and no direct comment from Microsoft. In my case, this just now started showing up on my computer. Why just now and not back in Aug? For that reason alone I have my doubts. I think Microsoft should get on line and answer these questions for themselves. We shouldn't have to take the word of other members of the chat group that we don't know and don't know what qualifications they have... After all, it is Microsoft own fault for making it look bogus in the first place. Microsoft needs to fix their own mess.

find anything....
