Official Word Starter update?

When I opened up my laptop this morning (8/16/14) there was a pop-up on the screen telling me  there was an update available for Microsoft Word Starter 2010 and asking me if I wanted to download it.  It did not look like the typical Windows or Office update notification.  I closed the pop-up and opened Windows update and ran it.  There were some updates available, but none that said they were for Word Starter.  IS there a new Update for Word Starter or is this someone trying to get me to download a virus?

Hi everyone,

We heard back from the product group. The dialog is expected for a legitimate Office 2010 starter update. It appears for click to run scenarios where the path is missing a piece of information between the build that the user is running on and the latest available build.

The august update that was pulled is a Windows update, not an Office update.

    I allowed this update and it created a disaster on an 80 page document.  Ariel Narrow was replaced throughout and I can no longer select that font.  it tells me that the font is Ariel Narrow but it is a font used in my subtitle of the 80 page document.  Now I will have to do this in a different font which is something I want to avoid since other chapters have been done in Ariel Narrow.

    IT ALSO ERRASED ALL OF MY DOCUMENTS.

    I believe you are describing a virus. An Office update won't erase documents or replace fonts.

    If you have any part of Office 2010 on your machine, you will be offered updates for all Office 2010 components. You can decline and hide any that don't apply. Of Office 2013, I have only Word 2013 installed, so I have to decline a LOT of updates for other Office 2013 components. Apparently Windows Update is not smart enough to determine what you actually have installed; even though only one version of Outlook can be installed, I am frequently offered updates for multiple versions.
