When I opened up my laptop this morning (8/16/14) there was a pop-up on the screen telling me there was an update available for Microsoft Word Starter 2010 and asking me if I wanted to download it. It did not look like the typical Windows or Office update notification. I closed the pop-up and opened Windows update and ran it. There were some updates available, but none that said they were for Word Starter. IS there a new Update for Word Starter or is this someone trying to get me to download a virus?

Hi everyone,
We heard back from the product group. The dialog is expected for a legitimate Office 2010 starter update. It appears for click to run scenarios where the path is missing a piece of information between the build that the user is running on and the latest available build.
The august update that was pulled is a Windows update, not an Office update.

No one here works for Microsoft (except the person who posted the Answer), and all we know is what we've been told, namely, that the update is genuine.
Thank you Suzanne for answering the first question, but please answer these.... 1, And just to be clear, you are telling me to click on the OK button? 2, Can you please tell me why I didn't get this update thing opening up on my computer until just now when all this started in Aug? 3, Why didn't they make it look real? 4, and why didn't they just make it an auto update? I just keep getting partial answers or just very vague answers. These things Microsoft should be able to answer... I would think if Microsoft gave a **** about it's customers, they would want to get on line and make a post to explain all of this. Not treat us like mushrooms, keeping us in the dark searching for answers.... COME ON MICROSOFT GET WITH THE PROGRAM...
I am getting the same message, but I don't have the Starter version of Word. I have 2010 Professional. That's why I'm suspicious and reluctant to run this update. Any advice would be appreciated. I'd like to make it go away forever if it's not appropriate for my computer.
