Google Drive now supported in Word for iPad?

So Word for iPad's latest update allows integration with Google Drive, but I can't get it to work.

I checked in 'Add a place' - I can select OneDrive, OneDrive for Business, Dropbox or Sharepoint, but no sign of (Google) Drive.

Under ". . . more" , and "Locations" there's a slide button to select Google Drive, but I can't see any effect.  Even with this switched on, Drive doesn't appear under any of the menus.

Is this a bug?

    With help from the steps taken by Mort, I got it to work!

    1. Open, More, Locations, More
    2. Turn on Google Drive, Done
    3. Now, from Open, More, Locations - Google Drive will show in the list
    4. Tap Google Drive, then select your Drive account

    Your documents show up in the list and can be edited within the MS Office app.

    I am able to open files from my Google Drive in Word as described above but like everyone else am still having problems saving the file back to google drive after I edit the document, and like others have lost work that I edited and thought it was auto saving to GD.  However I believe there have been times were it did auto save back to google drive because I opened it on my PC and the file had been updated.  

    I am wondering if anyone has had success with saving back to google drive after editing the file, without having to save as a different copy or something, as that is just anoying to have to have duplicate files.  I also do have a 365 account

    One other issue I've had is opening certain word files from word into google drive it says it cannot open that certain file type, however it is the same exact file type as others I have opened.  

    Any help is appreciated as this issue has been extremely annoying.  Just trying to be productive and edit some files!

    I can't save to Google at all. I can open files from my Drive, but the auto-saves all stay on the iPad. I've never been able to save from the Word app to Drive. It always throws an error, sometimes it creates a 0kb file in the folder, which is worse.

    Yes I agree, when I try to save a copy using the "File --> Save a copy --> then choose my google drive location" it saves, but when opened it is a 0kB blank document.  However I can save a copy to Google drive by instead clicking the button on the top right (person with + sign) then select send a copy --> send with another app --> then I choose google drive. Unfortunately this does not solve the dilemma of seamlessly opening a document from drive editing it and then saving it back to the original file destination...

    This is now working for me, but took a little bit to find it.  I had the same problem.  I could see the options for OneDrive, DropBox, etc.  But had to dig a little deeper.

    In the app (Word, Excel, etc.)

    • Press Open
    • Press   " ...  More" in the selection list
    • Press "Locations" in the top left of the iCloud Drive header bar
    • Press the "More ...." option
    • Toggle the Google Drive slider to ON
    • Follow the prompts to log into your Google account.
