Google Drive now supported in Word for iPad?

So Word for iPad's latest update allows integration with Google Drive, but I can't get it to work.

I checked in 'Add a place' - I can select OneDrive, OneDrive for Business, Dropbox or Sharepoint, but no sign of (Google) Drive.

Under ". . . more" , and "Locations" there's a slide button to select Google Drive, but I can't see any effect.  Even with this switched on, Drive doesn't appear under any of the menus.

Is this a bug?

OK Microsoft - a thousand apologies - GoogleDrive integration works now and it wasn't your fault after all. All is forgiven! Well actually most rather than all.

According to a number of articles, Office mobile apps are now supposed to offer editing and creation rights for free, i.e. without an Office 365 subscription. The blurb on the Apple AppStore certainly backs this up:

'The core word experience is free, including viewing, creating and editing documents.'

In practice this doesn't seem to be the case however! Not sure what the status of this actually is.

OMG....finally!   I just tested this and spread the word to my instructors!   Its a little buried to save and open stuff, but glad to see it works finally!

The organizations' policies reflect their attitude towards customers. Which of Microsoft, Google or Apple care to take the high road and place the customer first. In this case the message appears to be that the customer is not the priority. You attract more customers buy offering excellent customer service rather than fighting among each other.

I got it working right now (the steps you mentioned worked ok for me).

Only problem is...I can only open from the Google cloud-based drive, not the local copies of files I've put "available offline" a few minutes before.

Still looking for the local GDrive in my iPad (and YES, IT IS updated, and YES, apps are updated, too...).
