Google Drive now supported in Word for iPad?

So Word for iPad's latest update allows integration with Google Drive, but I can't get it to work.

I checked in 'Add a place' - I can select OneDrive, OneDrive for Business, Dropbox or Sharepoint, but no sign of (Google) Drive.

Under ". . . more" , and "Locations" there's a slide button to select Google Drive, but I can't see any effect.  Even with this switched on, Drive doesn't appear under any of the menus.

Is this a bug?

I can access the drive by clicking the "More" Button, and the "Locations" Button, but there is no permanent adding this as a location item, I have to complete those options each time. Is this the only way to get it to work? Thank you!

In the colum which has + Add a Place, select more ...

In the pop up select location

Google drive if installed will show in the next window.

bit convoluted but it is there

How did you get it to work?  I get empty files with a corruption error.

It does work, but not the way most people would expect. Google doesn't integrate as well when you take it so far out of its ecosystem. It will not appear as a "place" in Word on iPad like Dropbox does. Instead, you need to tap "More" beside the 3 dots and navigate. By default it will show iCloud, but if you tap "Locations" you can select Google Drive and browse your folders from any Google Account.

You should also be aware that saving to GD isn't as seamless either. While the file will appear to be auto-saving, thousands of users online have reported that they have lost information when they thought it was auto-saving back to GD. I lost over an hour of client interview notes today. It is usually safer to save a Duplicate somewhere in Dropbox or Onedrive and edit that version.
