Google Drive now supported in Word for iPad?

So Word for iPad's latest update allows integration with Google Drive, but I can't get it to work.

I checked in 'Add a place' - I can select OneDrive, OneDrive for Business, Dropbox or Sharepoint, but no sign of (Google) Drive.

Under ". . . more" , and "Locations" there's a slide button to select Google Drive, but I can't see any effect.  Even with this switched on, Drive doesn't appear under any of the menus.

Is this a bug?

    In the Word app, click

    -"Open"

    -"More"

    -"Location"

    -"Google Drive"

    This allowed me to open Word Docs from Google Drive, but not Google Docs. But you can convert them to Word Docs in the Google App.

    TBH, getting an Office file opened from Google Drive into Office iOS apps is easy:

    Google Drive/folder/file/tap/open in, etc - voila!

    Not really that much different from opening a file from any directory/folder on a PC/Mac. However, getting a file from 0ffice onto Google Drive is another issue.

    Odd, if Android/iOS wars are so pertinent to this issue, that so many other iOS apps allow direct export to Google Drive??? In fact, this is precisely why Myself, 100 colleagues and 1250 students at my school, are currently using Pages, Keynote and Numbers, as productivity apps on iOS, when we'd much rather use Office! Clearly an omission on the part of Google/Alphabet, or whatever they're called these days. Perhaps their disintegration into smaller, more focussed companies, will preclude such oversights in future. 😆

    Anyhow, accepting that this is an unresolvable issue from the Google end, perhaps MS could take a look at allowing Google Drive to import files from OneDrive for Business (works great in OneDrive, so I'm guessing this is problem is with SharePoint, i.e. at MS's end). At least then my colleagues, students and I could use this back door to get Office files where we actually want them!

    I, too, am having the same problem. I have Google drive and it is installed and working correctly. When I go to location, I only have slider bars to turn on Dropbox and Google Drive, but neither shows in my file picker even after turning them "on".

    Please advise as to how to fix this. I have restarted my iPad, uninstalled and reinstalled Word, and searched everywhere on the Internet.

    I specifically paid for the upgrade to 365 because I was under the impression that I could use this with Google drive as an on-the-go replacement for my computer and wanted to be able to redline my docs which are stored in Google drive. It now seems this has been a huge waste.
