excel 2013 crashes in windows 8.1

Hi,

I've made a fresh install of windows 8.1, and then office 2013. However excel 2013 crashes every time right after I try to scroll down.

  • Works in safe mode
  • There are no add-ins installed
  • Other office programs work fine
  • already completely uninstalled (via fixit) and reinstalled the software.
  • running windows 8.1 pro

"take a back-up of that OSF.DLL file and delete it.

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 15\root\Office15\OSF.DLL

Or

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office15\OSF.DLL

Once the file is deleted open Excel and check if the issue persists."

    I have the same setup as Juan and was panicking a bit. It seems like something Microsoft have to sort out because this issue appears regularly over the last few days.

    I see a lot of talk about graphics cards but mine is integrated into an i5

    I can't confess to have worked this out for myself but it solved the issue.

    Go to

    Control Panel -> System -> Advanced System Settings (on left) -> click Advanced tab -> under Performance (first option) -> click Settings -> on Visual Effects tab -> uncheck "Animate controls and elements inside windows"

    Brilliant it works for me too. I noticed OSF.DLL was a common factor in the event log for both Word and Excel and had tried to find a version on the Microsoft site. Didn't think of just deleting it !
