excel 2013 crashes in windows 8.1

Hi,

I've made a fresh install of windows 8.1, and then office 2013. However excel 2013 crashes every time right after I try to scroll down.

  • Works in safe mode
  • There are no add-ins installed
  • Other office programs work fine
  • already completely uninstalled (via fixit) and reinstalled the software.
  • running windows 8.1 pro

Or

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office15\OSF.DLL

Once the file is deleted open Excel and check if the issue persists."

    This worked for me, was using Windows 8.1 and Excel 2013.   Same problem as everyone else, including spell check.   Your answer did the trick.

    Hi guys,

    It's never a good idea to delete core application files. I am not sure what all this will affect, but this does not appear to be one of the files that will replace itself automatically, unless you reinstall Office, so you are letting yourselves in for other issues down the road by deleting it.

    We have two identical spec Dell desktops with WIN 8 Pro bought within a week of each other. Both had Office 365 Home Premium installed and both got hit at the same time this week on Nov 5 with "Excel has stopped working". The program crashed whenever scrolling started. All the other Office applications seemed ok.

    Both PCs have Avast installed so it looks like that was the culprit (in hindsight).

    I tried the offline repair to Office 365 but it didn't fix the problem even though it seemed to think it had. I ran the online repair which uninstalled Office but wouldn't reinstall the package.

    I have spent two days trying everything that can be Googled to get the program to reinstall but nothing will work. Everytime the Click-to-Run ap starts it goes away and comes back a few minutes later saying that it appears there is no internet connection or not enough hard disk space. I have disabled firewalls and av, clean reboot - the whole nine yards but nothing, but nothing will get this to install.

    I have a HP laptop with Office installed since April where Excel is still running but I am afraid of my life of it getting updated and leaving me with no Office at all.

    Try running a business without Office - it's no joke!

    Does anyone know to get around this install issue?
