You can get a two-page spread in Word 2013 by clicking on Zoom in the Zoom group on the View tab. Then click the arrow beside Many pages and choose 1 x 2 Pages as shown below.

This approach with Word 2013 produces the following page order and layout with a gap between two pages in the centre. This could be good for viewing but not for Press Dummy which I will discuss later in this post.
and,
Here, in case a doubt comes, OP speaks of Read View so where does Press Dummy question comes from, and of what relevance it is? I spoke of Read View because most people won't understand Press Dummy. The relevance of Press Dummy comes from the fact that I used Word 2007 for creating Press Dummies but, with identical settings in Word 2013, I cannot produce Press Dummies; and, only difference between these two editions (in this specific context) was the Read View. I have explained these in depth and with illustrations in my prior posts of this thread, and therefore, I am not going to repeat them here.
First, it is necessary to understand different types of layouts used in printing industry depending on various consideration, a topic I am not going to deal with, at this point. I want to stick to the issue (a) what is expected of Word 2013 (b) What was available with Word 2007.
So, following are different types of binding techniques, and the publisher choses the right one for him -
Now, this is what I was able to produce (see illustration below) using Word 2007 but cannot do so using Word 2013. Look at the page sequence, page look (without any gap at the centre), and compare with Zoom approach result. Here, it is relevant that Perfect Bound technique was used as volume (batch size) was high (5,000 copies) and four-color printing (CYMK model) with Spot UV Finish.
There may be situations when I may need to use 2-up Saddle Stitch binding, which I did use for my following 2003 publication (PageMaker 7 illustration). You may want to see the page order and over all looks (without any gap at the centre).
Again, I may need another style of page sequence and, of course, page layout without any gap at the centre. Actually, I did use it in the past, and may even use in future. You may want to look at illustrations:
These PageMaker layouts were also possible with Word 2007.
What I am looking for is viable approach using Word 2013 and produce this type of Press Dummies.
If that's not possible, then I shall have to find other alternatives -
I think what we have here is a failure of imagination. But Word is not prepress software. Perhaps you should be looking at Adobe InDesign.
I think what we have here is a failure of imagination. But Word is not prepress software. Perhaps you should be looking at Adobe InDesign.
What you fail to understand is Word 2007 could do it and I made it do it. That is success of imagination, not failure.
It is failure of imagination on part of the theoreticians like you who are devoid of any imagination to get best out of a software like Word 2007.
Lack of understanding of capabilities of Word 2007 made you comment like that. So, live in the box where you truly belong to for you need greater intelligence to use hidden capabilities of a software like Word 2007.
Lacking that capability, you defend Word 2013. Expand your horizon my dear, don't be the 'frog in the well' who thinks the world is as big as the well. So, you think Word 2007 could not do what I did with it and repeatedly told you.
You think I was not aware of Adobe Design or did not explore it? Do you know the price difference? Would you be stupid enough to spend that much extra when Word 2007 can do what I needed?
It is your gross ignorance of Word 2007's capabilities (in this particular context) that makes you offer foolish suggestion like this.
When I had made it abundantly clear in earlier post that I do not expect you to offer any intelligent solution and therefore, I closed further discussion; so, why did you go pursuing it further? At least, your ignorance of Word 2007 would not have become so very apparent.
Don't think what you say about Word 2007 is the last word. You have lot more to learn about its capabilities. Don't hide your ignorance by giving such one-liners 'Word is not prepress software'. Who said it is? But who says it cannot be used for something it is not known for? Isn't that height of stupidity?
