Why are my onedrive documents opening in read-only mode after installing office 365 home edition?

I'm opening a word document from my Onedrive folder on my local machine and it's opening in Word 365 in read-only mode. Why is this  and why can't I open the document in Word 2010?

    If you right-click the OneDrive icon on the taskbar, then, what options do you see there?

    I was looking inside File Explorer. On the task bar, the right-click OneDrive icon allows "Pause Syncing".

    I am not the original poster, and, in general, I am not having a major problem with "Read Only" files - but it happens perhaps daily. I suspect it is related to the original source of the file and Microsoft Word / Windows 10 "protecting" the file by making it "Read Only".

    At the moment I'm working on a computer with Windows 7 and no sync client installed, so I can't test the available options myself, but you should see (at the very least) something called Settings or perhaps Options when right-clicking the OneDrive icon on the taskbar.

    These read-only issues seem to resurface from time to time, and I don't think there has ever been an explanation that applies to everyone.

    Thanks so much for your hard work on tbis.my issue was four tears ago. ,and I'm not sure how it was resolved, but it was. I' sure your attention to this will help a lot of people though. Many thanks.

    Yes indeed - but no "Sync Now". The latest Win 10 version syncs automatically, I think, whenever a file is updated.
