A family of Microsoft word processing software products for creating web, email, and print documents.
Why are my onedrive documents opening in read-only mode after installing office 365 home edition?
I'm opening a word document from my Onedrive folder on my local machine and it's opening in Word 365 in read-only mode. Why is this and why can't I open the document in Word 2010?

2015-12-29T20:55:03+00:00 I tried most of what has been posted here. Nothing worked. So on all three computers where I use OneDrive I uninstalled Office 365 completely and then did a clean re-install. The problem with "compatibility mode" is now resolved.
It is a pain in the butt to do - but it works.

2016-06-22T10:20:41+00:00 I've been having the same trouble with excel files opening as read only.
I work on one PC and then save so that I can open it on a PC at another location. After much frustration, pointless reading and one desk bang I figured it out.
I saved my file on PC#1 which uploads to onedrive then I click "file" & "close". Now when I open the file on PC#2 it downloads & opens as writable.
If you just close the excel window with the "X" PC#1 seems to keep the file open in memory and opens as "read only" on PC#2
Works for me ;)

2016-09-02T18:54:10+00:00 I tried this and so far it has worked. I have an Office 365 and Windows 10, for a techno dunce like me the instructions couldn't be clearer, more concise, and easy to apply. Thanks!
