I'm opening a word document from my Onedrive folder on my local machine and it's opening in Word 365 in read-only mode. Why is this and why can't I open the document in Word 2010?

What I found out was the Microsoft Office application became corrupt. I was unable to switch from read only and furthermore, It told me I didn't have administrative privileges. Finally, I left my files alone, deleted Microsoft Office from my machine, re-downloaded it through my Microsoft Account, and that fixed everything.
If files are occasionally read only, look for "left-over" lock files in the local OneDrive driver. The lock files have almost the same names as the original *.docx, but the names start with ~$. After you have exited Word, you can delete the lock files.
I'm convinced that it's a glitch and that there isn't a "fix". It happens then it doesn't on my machines - and not on all of them all of the time.
This "fix" has been suggested numerous times in this thread, and it has been found to be ineffective.
