I'm opening a word document from my Onedrive folder on my local machine and it's opening in Word 365 in read-only mode. Why is this  and why can't I open the document in Word 2010?

My issue is opening a word document (edition does matter) and saving it on one drive.  Then when I try and save the one drive word doc, if I made changes, if won't allow me to do so unless I keep doing a save as.  This is not good or efficient.  Please fix or at least give us direction about what to do.

    Thank you

Download the file to the local drive and open it from there.

This is not a solution. Why is this occurring and how can it be fixed?

YES! this is driving me crazy.  I'm working on a project and need to create a new file over and over again.  When I try to change the settings, it immediately reverts back to Read-Only.  Why can't we get a clear answer on this? Raju, I appreciate your attempt to help but you responded by asking us questions.

    1. It is all Word Documents.
    2. I am accessing them through One Drive.

2a) You did not follow this question with instructions.  Am I to imply from your question that I/we should first be opening up Word and then opening up our files through the program instead of clicking directly on our files?

2b) If so, that is pretty clunky

    1. This direction seems to imply that some of us have a One Drive with a bug?  If so, will you be sending out updates in the near future?
    2. Well, that is a round-about dismissal of our concerns.

How is there still no answer to this question?  This is REALLY frustrating!  And it still opens as read only when you open it through the program and not through One Drive.

I went in and accessed the One Drive folder from c: users/owner/one drive

Right Clicked on the folder and added to my library.

So far, after doing this my Word Documents started opening correctly again... I hope the fix sticks!

    knock on wood.
