Why are my onedrive documents opening in read-only mode after installing office 365 home edition?

Yes they are very much a faceless organization with the only priority is $ale$. That's all they care about. No one in the company wants to take responsibility. All their tech support is outsourced to Asia. They read from a script but when they have to deal with something that goes off script they are pretty much lost. Then they start asking questions and get clients to try stuff which is really annoying. Not that that is their fault they do the best they can with what they have. IMO Micro$oft is the single most  worst tech company on the planet.

I have several times over the years felt exactly that. Hardware problems with Surface Pro 3 & 4, as well as the awful Sports Band, software problems with Windows and Office... Last week a major glitch in Outlook surfaced. I found out about what was wrong then only via news channels, not from Microsoft. When it was fixed, once again, no comment or email was received from Microsoft. It is an unusual company, I'll say that. It makes no attempt to befriend its customer base so far as I can see.

7 pages of near useless information before we get some answers. Micro$oft have washed their hands of this by the looks of it. And they don't supply their customers with a definitive resolution. They leave it up to MVP's and users to solve themselves after 3 years of posts. Appalling customer service. I am surprised there is not more litigation against M$ as they waste millions of hours of millions of people seeking answers to solve the problems of their bug plagued crappy coded $oftware.

This worked for a brief time only. A file I opened yesterday, from my own hard drive had to be saved as a copy since it opened as "read only". I think the issue is to do with the file source itself and the way MS Office marks these as they are opened. I suspect Office has a glitch in the "Trust Centre".

Do you have to open onedrive from that library in order for your files to function properly?
