I'm opening a word document from my Onedrive folder on my local machine and it's opening in Word 365 in read-only mode. Why is this  and why can't I open the document in Word 2010?

How weird!  However, many thanks! I'll try that!

I tried most of what has been posted here. Nothing worked. So on all three computers where I use OneDrive I uninstalled Office 365 completely and then did a clean re-install. The problem with "compatibility mode" is now resolved.

It is a pain in the butt to do - but it works.

This seems to work but not always permanently. I'm thinking that when OneDrive syncs across each computer in a home then it might well sync "read only" files once more. I'm going to open each computer and change the OneDrive properties in each to see if that will create a permanent solution.
