Why are my onedrive documents opening in read-only mode after installing office 365 home edition?

Is it possible that the folder you refer to was not initially your unique folder and has been shared to you from another OneDrive user? If so then they need to grant you "Edit" ability. If not then is it possible you have different email addresses listed? and the system has only granted you read access from the parent email account that is associated with OneDrive?

I have been having the issue where a shared folder from within my OneDrive caused all of the files to open in read only for other people, despite the items being fully shared for multiple user access. I have read through this thread and had previously attempted these options unfortunately with little to no success... until I looked at the recipients PC... I found that the issue was at the "recipients end" and not OneDrive itself. Anyway yada yada yada, if you right click on the OneDrive folder (the one with the cloud icon) within the file explorer (Windows 10) then properties followed by selecting the sharing tab, you MAY find that it is not actually shared? select the share button and proceed to share the folder (yes you are likely to be sharing it with just yourself). (This fix presumes that you are already set up with your Microsoft recognised email address and have the OneDrive folder on your machine)

It appears Onedrive wants to keep the Onedrive copy as the master by making all other copies wherever they read only.  I get that but there should be an EASY way to override this action with settings in Onedrive.  I've read through the solutions posted here. That's way too much to deal with and too easy to make a mistake somewhere then have to do it all over or worse, foul something up. 

I simply wanted Onedrive to be an additional backup copy of files. After all this Onedrive is going night-night.

MS - are you listening?

I think problem is fixed. I have a small partition where I keep stuff. I set one drive up there, so far it works.

Another solution for people maybe google drive, sorry MS, well no not really :)

I have been waiting years for Microsoft to fix this problem. They never respond to this issue so I assume they don't care or have no clue what to do. Don't get your hopes up that Microsoft will ever do anything.
