I'm opening a word document from my Onedrive folder on my local machine and it's opening in Word 365 in read-only mode. Why is this  and why can't I open the document in Word 2010?

This is a workaround, not a solution. Why should this be happening in the first place? Why is it that changing the properties appears to have no effect?

This cured the read-only issue for me when opening files in Office 2013

    Open File Explorer

    Right Click on the OneDrive

    Select Properties

    General Tab

Attributes: if there is a little black square in the Read Only Box - click on it to remove

    Select Apply

    Select OK

You will get a confirmation dialog that asks if you want to apply to all files & subfolders

    Select OK

Another dialog will appear showing progress of updating file attributes

It will go away when complete

You Should have no more read only issues

You may need to set your OneDrive folder as a trusted location under File>Options>Trust Center>Trust Center Settings.

Whenever I open a file from OneDrive folder it opens as read-only. I have repeatedly tried to change the properties to OneDrive but it reverts all folders and files back to read-only. I can no longer save to the OneDrive folder. WTF?

I'm having this problem too. I'm opening the files from the onedrive section of file explorer. It stopped happening for awhile but now, since the 8.1 update its occurring again. It's very annoying because if forces me to save a new version of the file every time I work on the damn thing.
