Autosave not working - no files are there

I use autosave and have it set for every time minutes. I had a workbook open and was inputting data for many hours. I saw the taskbar show it autosave many, many times until it crashed. When I reopened excel, it reverted back to the last user saved version which was several hours old. I searched for the autorecover files, but they are the same old file. When I tried opening one, I get the error that happeend when it crashed - it says 'Excel cannot complete the task with available resources. Choose less data or close other application" (this was the error when it crashed in the first place)

I have plenty or memory available on my computer

I really need this fixed. Autosave does me no good if I can't recover my files.

Why cant this damn program just SAVE AUTOMATICALLY!!  I wasted 1hr of work time.

Why do you work for an hour and not click save? Who walks away from their computer and doesn't click save? Since I was about 8 yrs old I knew to save often. Nobody to blame but yourself. I'm sure you've got years of precious work and photos on your hard drive that you've been meaning to get around to backing up too.

I understand your frustration. I've been there, done that and I know better. I am constantly reminding others to do frequent saves and backup. But I know how it is to get into a groove and work "head down" for a long time

As you've seen, you are not the only one with this problem.  Apparently MS does nto pay much attention to this forum.  Most to the work/support is provided by unpaid USER volunteers. Granted there are a few MS staffers, but not necessarily developers.

MS has created a specific user channel called "Feedback". There are a few different ways of accessing it, depending on the specific application / operating system.

This link above is to a “Forum Article” describing the various ways you can now submit “Feedback” directly to MS Developers and Managers.

I noticed that the auto save (and saving in general) documents that are auto syncing/backing up real time (drop box or similar) seems to have more problems just to my local computer.  Not sure if anyone else has seen this pattern or if I just got lucky...Possibly a file locking issue?

You are not the only one. I've seen several posts where people are having problems with autosave not working, causing them to lose hours of work.

Right now it seems that going old school is the way to go. Use macros and 3rd party tools to do local Save As. Then manually move files to onedrive. It sucks, but until MS stabilizes their autosave we are exposed to crash problems.

OK, I have this issue, too. A file saved in OneDrive through my work's 365 subscription. OneDrive app installed and working correctly. MS Excel 2016 also installed latest version through Office 365. Three hours of work lost with no autosave files to be seen, including in the standard folder.

This is a serious issue, Microsoft. I feel like I have gone back to 1997; please take very seriously. It is clearly still a recurring issue as of May 2018.
