I get blue prints as JPG PNG BMP but no matter how good the quality of the picture, after it is inserted into Visio none of the words can be read. I even used a 600 dpi 36"X24" crystal clean blueprint and it still looked blurry or pixilated in Visio. What's the deal with this $300 software? I can open up the bmp png jpg in previewer and it looks great zoomed in by the way.

Can you please upload some of the pictures, pngs/jpgs, where the issue is present on some online share? Please remove any personal information if present from the pictures before sharing.
I also find this a problem. I usually get a base screenshot from software apps and work on them to make design sketchs.
I guess you changed your picture resize management algorithms for zoom or compression, or something like that, I think I didn't have this problem at previous versions of MS Visio.
And, sometimes, at 100% zoom it still doesn't look clean. If I double click the image, it gets opened at Paint... and there it looks clean! So... Why it has to look so bad at Visio? I think you should have this in mind and try to fix it, there are a lot of reasons to work with base pictures at Visio.
There were some enhancements to high resolution image import in Visio. This was released as part of Aug PU here - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2881079
Please follow the directions mentioned clearly. Ensure that you have kb 2881079 and kb 2883049 (as mentioned in instructions) installed and configure the reg key accordingly.
I'm experiencing exactly the same issue. I have tried to install both KB fixes, but I got a message saying they were already installed. I also added the registry key and restarted my machine, but it appeared to have no effect.
