No matter how good of a picture I have when I insert it into Visio 2013 Pro, it is blurry.

I get blue prints as JPG PNG BMP but no matter how good the quality of the picture, after it is inserted into Visio none of the words can be read.  I even used a 600 dpi 36"X24" crystal clean blueprint and it still looked blurry or pixilated in Visio.  What's the deal with this $300 software?  I can open up the bmp png jpg in previewer and it looks great zoomed in by the way.

    Wow, OK, let's start over.

    I showed you 2 pictures.  The top one is good.  Even at 300%, it is a good picture.  I Showed it to you in magnification to demonstrate that it is a good picture and I'm not inserting a bad picture.  The bottom example is the same picture inserted into Visio magniied to show show how bad it it compared to the original.  It is blurry and useless to me.  My question is:

    Why are pictures blurry when inserted into Visio, and how can that be corrected?

    Oddly enough I found free software that can do what I want and keeps my images looking good.  It's not as pretty, but DIA works great!  You guys should give them a call, maybe they can fix your problem.

    I struggle with this problem too! Here's what I did - hope it helps someone else.

    • I installed KB2883049
    • added HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Visio\Application DWORD Value: SupportHighResImage=1
      • I had to add the Visio and Application keys - I didn't have Visio in 15.0
    • I tried to install KB2881079 but got the error "There are no products affected by this package installed on this system"

    But I still get very blury images when:

    • using the Insert tab, 'Pictures' option
    • dragging/dropping an image directly from File Explorer

    BUT! I have found that if I first open the image in Photoshop, select all, copy, then PASTE the image into Visio I get full res! Woo!

    A large high res image does seem to slow visio down very quickly, so something is still not right, but at least I can actually complete some work now!

    Thanks mcking38. I tried inserting the png file on the machine with the patch installed and did a high zoom at a portion of the file. The result is on LHS. One a machine without patch, the result is on RHS for the same area.

    Please verify that the registry SupportHighResImage under

    HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Visio\Application is set to 1 after installing Aug patch - http://support2.microsoft.com/kb/2881079
