Status Bar Sum Total Disappears

I use a two monitor system and will have MS Excel 2013 running on both.  On one monitor I can select a range of numbers and the sum total will show in he status bar.  When I select a cell in the workbook on my other monitor the sum total disappears.  Is there a way to not have the sum total disappear?

    our office just forced us to upgrade and while getting used to the new ugly interface was shocked to see this happening as I tried to copy a sum over into another workbook.  this is completely unacceptable I can't believe someone would think it was a good idea for excel to show less info while it is not selected.

    As someone who works with Excel non-stop all day every day this change from 2010 is very inconveniencing to me. I thought software was supposed to improve over time? This is an absolute downgrade in my mind. I used this feature innumerable times every day. If the workaround did not exist I would absolutely downgrade my software to 2010 again. The workaround is annoying. PLEASE update this.

    This is a really problematic issue. Why would this function be taken away? I was forced to switch to this by my company and I use multiple monitors. That sum function in the status bar was pretty essential.  Will there be a patch? There are so many people upset by this.

    I have no interest in future Microsoft products if basic functions are continually removed with no explanation or concessions to patch the issues.

    Creating a new instance is unfortunately the only way (apparently) to get this to work in Excel 2013/16 right now.

    If opening a new instance via ALT is problematic, maybe you'll wish to try this:

    • Find your excel.exe binary.
    • Copy and create a symbolic link in a convenient place (i.e. usually your desktop)
    • Open properties of your symbolic link
    • In the line for your link's target add ' /x' after the ...\excel.exe" (i.e. ...\excel.exe" /x)

    Now every time you start Excel with that symlink, it will open a new instance.

    Unfortunately those have their separate issues, especially when it comes to copy&paste...
