I use a two monitor system and will have MS Excel 2013 running on both.  On one monitor I can select a range of numbers and the sum total will show in he status bar.  When I select a cell in the workbook on my other monitor the sum total disappears.  Is there a way to not have the sum total disappear?

This behavior did not exist in Excel 2010 though.  It was a lot more convenient to compare two spreadsheets this way.

It is disappointing to know that this option is no longer available in Excel 2013.  You need to fix this problem --- I am not the only one that has requested this be fixed!!!!!!  When can we expect this?  Please do what is right!!

You are my hero, and have saved me an insurmountable amount of time! We just updated to 2016 (from 2010... sad how out of date the comps at work were) and this was driving me nuts! Didn't work on my 2013 at home either! Thank you thank you thank you!

I also suffer from this on upgrading to Office Professional 2016.

Strangely, I didn't get around to Activating the product until the nag screens appeared.  For nearly a month I was using excel before activation, and it did not behave in this way.  After activation it does.  To me, this suggests that it would not be impossible for MS to reverse this particular mistake.

Personally, this change reduces excels usefulness to me considerably and will cause me a lot of extra work.

    Please please release a patch.

    Jon

I would also like to add my support to all of the other feedback provided in this thread.  As a financial controller, I practically live and breathe Excel and have always loved it as a tool for creating efficiencies in my job.  However the removal of this feature has caused me to hate Excel for the first time ever.  Because of these figures disappearing in the status bar Excel is now making me feel completely inefficient in my role since it is something that I previously used numerous times every day.

The "workaround" or opening separate instances of Excel is not also an additional inefficiency but it is also completely un-usable for me for the following reasons:

    1. All of the spreadsheets I use are stored in a Document Management system and the only way I can access them is to open the DM system and then open the spreadsheet from there.  As the DM system automatically opens each new spreadsheet in the same instance of Excel I have no option for opening them in separate instances.  There is no way I can access the spreadsheet (saved in our DM system) from within an instance of Excel.
    2. I often need to copy worksheets from one Excel document (workbook) to another.  If I have the spreadsheets open in separate instances of Excel it is not possible for me to do this as the second workbook is not visible in the "Move or Copy" drop-down list.

Can you please please please make patching this issue a high priority.  Obviously this is affecting many users and creating a lot of unhappy customers so surely it must be in your best interests to resolve this issue, especially considering how many alternative packages are out there on the market these days.

I just had Microsoft Office updated to 2016 (5-6-16). My current set up is that I have two monitors for ease of generating large and complex budget files. In my previous software, 2010, I could have two instances of Excel open, one on each screen, and on one screen I can sum up some cells to get a "sum." The status bar would hold that information so I could go to the other screen, and input that "sum" in a new budget sheet.

Now, with the upgrade, as soon as you click outside of the "summed" information, the information disappears on the status bar. This is so frustrating when you are working on complex budgets and need that information. Now I result to writing down the number or using my 10-key calculator to put the number in. So inefficient and generates errors.

Microsoft, why did you remove this function? It is a VERY valuable tool to us folks that work with budget numbers. Can you please provide a patch that brings that back?

    Kindly,

    Teresa
