Horizontal scroll by mousewheel not working

I have a Logitech M500 mouse. This mouse has a mechanical mousewheel (the "ticking" kind), which can also be clicked from the sides to horizontally scroll. The great thing as that this works almost everywhere... In my browser, in Notepad++, basically almost everywhere as far as the programs go that I use. Except for Excel 2013.

Possibly related, it also doesn't work in regular ol' Explorer file browser windows. Not a bother, because I use Total Commander. But the horizontal scroll thing does work in Internet Explorer 10, which seems odd to me (same company behind Explorer and Internet Explorer, after all).

When I got the mouse, I did not install any drivers myself. I just connected the mouse and let Windows looks for and install proper drivers completely automatically. And since it works perfectly in the browser and my code editor, I figured the horizontal scroll function was working properly.

Is there perhaps some kind of thing that I need to do to make Excel recognize a horizontal scoll from the scrollwheel, or have I perhaps stumbled upon a bug?

    Another approach is to use a key remapper application, like AHK. It should work more-or-less for ANY hardware, including Microsoft's. And there's a ton of discussions (example), related to Excel on AHK forums. I'm a bit surprised that it looks like no one mentioned this app here before.  

    But note that "Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Centre" might conflict with AHK.

    Hello,

    This worked fine for me and unlocked horizontal scroll also in OneNote (have no Publisher).

    If it doesn't work for you, it may depend on mouse hardware and/or firmware/driver/utility.

    Here is mine:

    HP ProBook 6470b notepad

    Office 2016

    Logitech MX Anywhere 2 mouse, bluetooth connection, buttons managed by "Logitech Options" software (no application-specific configuration).

    I tried several methods, Scroll Lock, installed Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Centre  and install logitech setpoint. 

    I am on Win7 32 bit, and I need Excel Horizontal scroll where my MS 5000 mouse did, sadly the scroll wheel wore out after 5 years of service, and Logitech Marathon 705, even the MS 4000 wireless also working seamlessly. 

    And this terrible mouse with the stupid windows swipe design, is so hard to get it work on Excel to have horizontal scroll. 

    Today, I tried scroll lock method doesn't work, logitech set point doesn't work. 

    Finally, I loaded up Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Centre, and it works. 

    I decided to add a MS mouse and keyboard shortcut to my startup folder.

    There is an Excel COM add-in that enables horizontal scroll with mouse wheel while Shift key is pressed. The author claims it works in Excel 2000-2013 and also fixes a mouse wheel bug that crashes (older) Excel versions 2000-2007.

    This Excel Horizontal Scroll Add-In works perfectly fine for me and I'm very grateful to its author.

    Same exact problem here since 2013 release of horizontal scroll working all over the place except Excel. Running Office 2013/16 64bit. I use microsoft keyboard and mouse, on windows 7/8/10 64bit. Why oh why wont Microsoft mouse send properly to MICROSOFT Excel in MICROSOFT OS? This problem has persisted across many many different configurations, 100% not a driver issue or one of them would have worked once. The only constant factor I can think of is I install office 64bit, and windows 64bit.

    I feel this problem is also related to another issue that has driven me nuts since this upgrade to 2013 4 years ago. None of my audio shortcut keys will work when an office window is active. This is true across 5+ different computers i setup, win 7/8/10, using different mice and keyboards all Microsoft or Logitech.

    The right click on ready and scroll lock uncheck did not work, PLEASE address this, you have had 4 years for my silence in respect that Microsoft surely would do an update any day now to fix this and I will be patient. HOW MANY MILLIONS OF OTHERS IGNORE THIS? You are losing our faith.
