Horizontal scroll by mousewheel not working

I have a Logitech M500 mouse. This mouse has a mechanical mousewheel (the "ticking" kind), which can also be clicked from the sides to horizontally scroll. The great thing as that this works almost everywhere... In my browser, in Notepad++, basically almost everywhere as far as the programs go that I use. Except for Excel 2013.

Possibly related, it also doesn't work in regular ol' Explorer file browser windows. Not a bother, because I use Total Commander. But the horizontal scroll thing does work in Internet Explorer 10, which seems odd to me (same company behind Explorer and Internet Explorer, after all).

When I got the mouse, I did not install any drivers myself. I just connected the mouse and let Windows looks for and install proper drivers completely automatically. And since it works perfectly in the browser and my code editor, I figured the horizontal scroll function was working properly.

Is there perhaps some kind of thing that I need to do to make Excel recognize a horizontal scoll from the scrollwheel, or have I perhaps stumbled upon a bug?

    I have a Microsoft Sculpt Comfort Wireless Mouse which is advertised specifically for Windows 8.  I am running Windows 8.1 and Office 2013 since both are needed to take advantage of the touch screen.

    Office 2013 has a mouse mode and a touch mode.  Neither mode helps Power Point's lack of horizontal scrolling with a mouse that is suppose to be designed to support that.  (It works in either mode in Excel, Word and Outlook)

    Going back to Office 2010 isn't an option because of the lack of touch screen support.  I really expected this basic functionality to work with all Microsoft software and their own mouse.

    Please fix this....   IT IS AN OFFICE 2013 ISSUE !

    I am also eagerly waiting for a fix to this issue.  I'm using a brand new Microsoft Sculpt Mobile Mouse on Microsoft Windows 7 Professional, Microsoft Office 365.  It's too bad Microsoft couldn't make their own mouse work with their own software on their own operating system.  Don't they use their own products or read their own forums?  It seem's like someone should have noticed the problem by now.

    This is a bad workaround. The Logitech software is essentially mapping the horizontal scroll clicks to actions that Office 2013 does support. You don't need the Logitech software, or software for any other mouse brand. If it works in most application, that means the horizontal scroll function is essentially working. It's up to an application whether or not to respond to the events triggered by horizontal scrolling.

    Microsoft, could you just admit that this is a bug in Office 2013 please?

    We all know that's the case, so you might as well admit it. You don't need to keep up your image of producing perfect software. Everyone makes mistakes. No biggie. As long as you admit it and fix it, no harm is done.

    I was having the same issue (using a Logitech M705), but I found a solution in the software. I wouldn't know if this is a recent addition to SetPoint or not, but if you have the latest version, see if you have this screen:

    Make sure the box is checked, then click "Configure". I have the 2013 Office suite installed, and I see this on the screen that appears:

    For some reason, by default, the left and right scroll items were not assigned tasks for any of the applications. All I had to do was click on both and assign the appropriate task, and now it works like a charm! You can even adjust the scroll speed and/or acceleration.

    I came searching for this as I have erratic scroll behaviour (only in Office 365). It would work and then it wouldn't.

    I am currently in Excel Online working on a spreadsheet that has had the top row frozen and a number of left columns scroll locked as well. Whenmy cursor is above the locked portions, nothing happens. Yet when I'm hovering over the non-frozen cells, it scrolls fine.

    This is bad because even though the left columns are locked from scrolling away horizontally, they should still scroll vertically.
