Horizontal scroll by mousewheel not working

I have a Logitech M500 mouse. This mouse has a mechanical mousewheel (the "ticking" kind), which can also be clicked from the sides to horizontally scroll. The great thing as that this works almost everywhere... In my browser, in Notepad++, basically almost everywhere as far as the programs go that I use. Except for Excel 2013.

Possibly related, it also doesn't work in regular ol' Explorer file browser windows. Not a bother, because I use Total Commander. But the horizontal scroll thing does work in Internet Explorer 10, which seems odd to me (same company behind Explorer and Internet Explorer, after all).

When I got the mouse, I did not install any drivers myself. I just connected the mouse and let Windows looks for and install proper drivers completely automatically. And since it works perfectly in the browser and my code editor, I figured the horizontal scroll function was working properly.

Is there perhaps some kind of thing that I need to do to make Excel recognize a horizontal scoll from the scrollwheel, or have I perhaps stumbled upon a bug?

    Youssef, that is all I have for the time being.  De-selecting the scroll lock seemed to have fixed my issue for now (only time will tell).  I'll keep trying other things and post as I discover.

    If others respond by saying that the "scroll lock" option also does not work for them, then perhaps I got lucky and this issue is not completely resolved.

    Hi

    I bought a MS sculpt mobile mouse. Running win8.1. I installed the Sculpt mobile mouse when I first setup the mouse (download was from MS site) and everything was fine. However, my scroll wheel does not work on the following apps

    1. Excel
    2. PDF documents

    The scroll works perfectly on internet pages. I set vertical scroll (under control panel, printers and hardware, mouse, wheel option) to scroll per screen.  Horizontal scrolling seems to work in Excel. I have to scroll using the scroll bars in Excel instead

    If anyone knew how to resolve this issue, pls reply.

    I came searching for this as I have erratic scroll behaviour (only in Office 365). It would work and then it wouldn't.

    I am currently in Excel Online working on a spreadsheet that has had the top row frozen and a number of left columns scroll locked as well. Whenmy cursor is above the locked portions, nothing happens. Yet when I'm hovering over the non-frozen cells, it scrolls fine.

    This is bad because even though the left columns are locked from scrolling away horizontally, they should still scroll vertically.

    Like others, this suggested cure did not work for me - I am using a new HP Z4000 wireless mouse on a new HP laptop with Windows 8.1 and Excel 2013. Out of frustration, I took my old Microsoft wireless mouse (MSK 1056) which also has a scroll and plugged the USB stick into my laptop with Excel open. Windows 8.1 recognized it as a new device and automatically installed the driver, which took about 15 seconds. The scroll feature on my old MS mouse worked in Excel! I had my new mouse still turned on with its USB stick still in, and so simply moved my hand from the old MS mouse to my new mouse, and the scroll worked on it as well. I unplugged the old MS mouse USB stick - my new mouse scroll continued to work and has continued to work ever since. I have no idea why this fixed it, but if you have a different mouse with a scroll (maybe it has to be an MS mouse???), give it a try.

    Has anyone found a way to scroll horizontally in PowerPoint, Microsoft Office 2013, Office 365 Pro subscription?

    Is there any way to do it short of putting in new or editing libraries?

    I can scroll horizontally in Word and Excel 2013 but there is not way to scroll horizontally using the mouse in PowerPoint 2013.

    PowerPoint 2010 work great for horizontal scrolling.

    Did they just leave this feature out of PowerPoint?

    Will they ever put it back in?
