Horizontal scroll by mousewheel not working

I have a Logitech M500 mouse. This mouse has a mechanical mousewheel (the "ticking" kind), which can also be clicked from the sides to horizontally scroll. The great thing as that this works almost everywhere... In my browser, in Notepad++, basically almost everywhere as far as the programs go that I use. Except for Excel 2013.

Possibly related, it also doesn't work in regular ol' Explorer file browser windows. Not a bother, because I use Total Commander. But the horizontal scroll thing does work in Internet Explorer 10, which seems odd to me (same company behind Explorer and Internet Explorer, after all).

When I got the mouse, I did not install any drivers myself. I just connected the mouse and let Windows looks for and install proper drivers completely automatically. And since it works perfectly in the browser and my code editor, I figured the horizontal scroll function was working properly.

Is there perhaps some kind of thing that I need to do to make Excel recognize a horizontal scoll from the scrollwheel, or have I perhaps stumbled upon a bug?

    After much searching I found the setting in the Logitech SetPoint software.  Here's a screenshot with numbered steps

    1. rt clk on the mouse u have then
    2. clk on "SetPoint Settings" and the SetPoint window should open
    3. clk on "Select Button 4."
    4. clk radio button "Other"
    5. Scroll through the "Select Task" list until u find "Left Scroll"

    repeat for "Select Button 5." but with "Right Scroll"

    This worked for all apps except Project Libre.  Not surprised as it uses the Java UI convention.

    Horizontal scrolling on my Sculpt Comfort Mouse is not working after updating the Mouse and Keyboard Center and/or the latest Windows 10 update.  I primarily use it for Excel.  I don't even see the option to enable horizontal scrolling in the mouse settings

    in Control Panel or in the Mouse and Keyboard Center.

     Horizontal scrolling ended with Logitech not supporting it in its mice after 2005? and Microsoft removing driver support from Office for its own mice around 2005.

     I can do horizontal scrolling in Excel 2003 (NOT 2010) using older mice under Server 2008.

    L & M decisions to stop supporting horizontal scrolling while producing mice which DO is ridiculous, especially since Excel requires HS.

    MS announced that they will restore it after Office 2007 came out. You just wait…

    This is not Logitech's fault, there is no default way to scroll horizontally in excel. The only thing for it is to use the solution I outlined below.

    I've the same problem with you with using the MX Master in Excel 2010. I had tried the 'uncheck scroll lock' method but it couldn't work.

    Is there anyone here using MX Master mouse with difficulties in horizontal scroll in Microsoft Office.

    Hello,

    This worked fine for me and unlocked horizontal scroll also in OneNote (have no Publisher).

    If it doesn't work for you, it may depend on mouse hardware and/or firmware/driver/utility.

    Here is mine:

    HP ProBook 6470b notepad

    Office 2016

    Logitech MX Anywhere 2 mouse, bluetooth connection, buttons managed by "Logitech Options" software (no application-specific configuration).
