I purchased the new Office 2013 to work with the Windows 8 that came with my newly purchased computer (Lenovo.)
The issues is, which has been driving me crazy over the past two months, when typing on the Word 2013, my cursor keeps jumping around on the page. For example, in the middle of my typing a sentence, the cursor would jump to three lines above in the middle of a word and continues the my input there. Whenever I see my writing in word is not changing while I definitely was typing, I will have to stop and started to examine where the words have went. After I find them five or whatever lines above, I will have to delete them, use the mouse to click the end of the writing again and trying to retype and continue to type.
I can swallow the problem if it only happens once each document, but it happens 10+ times when I type a two-page essay. I don't think the newly developed software is making my life easier but the opposite.
Does this happen to anybody else? Any clues of why or any suggestions, please?

P.s., please note that besides the letter keys I hit on the keyboard, I did not hit on any other keys such as arrow keys. Especially knowing my cursor jumps around, I am extremely careful with hitting my keys. I do not touch the mouse pad, neither.
P.s., besides jumping to other places and start insert words, sometimes the cursor would select/highlight a line or half line. If I was not aware of the change and hit a space, the whole selected lines are gone. See, I didn't know how to select lines besides using the mouse, and I did not use the mouse but simply typing, so I am very frustrated with what my cursor does to me.

The issue is due to the touch pad sensitivity. You can reduce or disable the sensitivity of touch pad from control panel-> mouse -> mouse properties. If issue still persists, check with an external keyboard.

I started with this problem about 2-3 months ago (around September 2016) after an automatic Windows 10 update was made by Microsoft. I am an editor and writer, and you can imagine my frustration when I found my cursor jumping around. This not only began in Word 2013 but also on Yahoo while composing email.
I touch type and being that I infrequently look at what I type, you can imagine my horror in seeing all the gibberish because my cursor inserted itself at different times in different places, messing up words and sentences.
Since my 2015 Dell latitude laptop was working very fine there is no reason to conclude that the mouse pad is suddenly bad or being touched while typing. Too many people have the same problem and repirted it on other sites. It has nothing to do with accidentally touching the mousepad while typing. Therefore, disabling the mouse is not a fix. There is some kind of bug that Microsoft needs to fix.
Today I was online with a conscientious Dell tech for nearly 3 hours --yes 3-- you read it correctly--trying all sorts of things as he had control and could see the cursor jump around.
Not only that, but when something goes on in the system, the cursor blips and blinks wherever it is, sending my emails in the process of being composed, opening ads, whatever.
When he had me plug in my external mouse, lo and behold the jumping stopped. I could still use the mouse pad. But this is not a fix as I do not want to move around with a Logitech mouse attached to my laptop to work around an obvious software/ hardware ( driver?) glitch. More importantly, why should this be such a problem in the first place?
Its a disaster. It is occurring on other computers as well, including my HP desk top bought in mid 2014 which has Windows 10.
And you will see that the same craziness had occurred in the past years.
Can't somebody in Microsoft please help us? Can there be a check of the Windows 10 system update in September or early October, 2016 so a bug fix can be initiated ?
I don't know whether it's helpful or not, but I suspect this may be an RF issue. My husband is an amateur radio operator (ham), and when he broadcasts on certain bands, especially if he operates at high power, I experience exactly what you describe--in spades. Windows popping up, the mouse moving erratically, garbage inserted in the text. It is absolutely impossible to work. Fortunately, this happens infrequently and in short spurts, but it is very distracting and distressing.
I have also experienced cases of the mouse "skittering"--just not responding smoothly--which proved to have a similar cause: it's a wireless mouse, and, although this should be entirely unrelated, if I turn off the wireless network and restart it, the problem is usually solved. If you can operate without a wireless connection, you might try turning that off to see if it helps.
But these are still just Band-Aids; if this is a Windows issue, then it is a bug that MS needs to fix.
This might not address all issues but this is what I do every time I purchase a new laptop. I go into the mousepad through Control Panel. I de-select enable tapping, scrolling, and zooming, (and I think with my latest one there was something about the palm that I disabled). These options are often buried somewhere in advanced settings under one of the tabs. This allows me to move the cursor around with the keypad without it jumping to new locations if my hand or palm brushes it the wrong way. It also doesn't select if I tap the keypad. I like this better. This way I use the keypad to move the cursor where I want it and I use the left and right click sections to select or bring up options. This prevents the cursor from jumping for the most part and it prevents that annoying zooming in and out when moving over the mousepad. It has not corrected the issue in Word when I am trying to correct something where my cursor is located after searching and it jumps to the previous location for no reason. I suspect that might have something to do with "smart cursoring" in Word. Not entirely sure, so that's why I searched the issue and ended up here. I think most of you are dealing with mousepad issues because they come pre-set with tapping, zooming, and scrolling enabled. My daughter's laptop (a different brand) had the same issues with cursor moving and zooming and I disabled these things on her mousepad settings and all is well. Hope this helps someone. I read about this issue years ago and always disable these things first now to avoid the problems.
