I purchased the new Office 2013 to work with the Windows 8 that came with my newly purchased computer (Lenovo.)
The issues is, which has been driving me crazy over the past two months, when typing on the Word 2013, my cursor keeps jumping around on the page. For example, in the middle of my typing a sentence, the cursor would jump to three lines above in the middle of a word and continues the my input there. Whenever I see my writing in word is not changing while I definitely was typing, I will have to stop and started to examine where the words have went. After I find them five or whatever lines above, I will have to delete them, use the mouse to click the end of the writing again and trying to retype and continue to type.
I can swallow the problem if it only happens once each document, but it happens 10+ times when I type a two-page essay. I don't think the newly developed software is making my life easier but the opposite.
Does this happen to anybody else? Any clues of why or any suggestions, please?

P.s., please note that besides the letter keys I hit on the keyboard, I did not hit on any other keys such as arrow keys. Especially knowing my cursor jumps around, I am extremely careful with hitting my keys. I do not touch the mouse pad, neither.
P.s., besides jumping to other places and start insert words, sometimes the cursor would select/highlight a line or half line. If I was not aware of the change and hit a space, the whole selected lines are gone. See, I didn't know how to select lines besides using the mouse, and I did not use the mouse but simply typing, so I am very frustrated with what my cursor does to me.

The issue is due to the touch pad sensitivity. You can reduce or disable the sensitivity of touch pad from control panel-> mouse -> mouse properties. If issue still persists, check with an external keyboard.

THANK YOU! It was so disconcerting to type and all of a sudden, the cursor is 5 lines from where you were. I've disconnected it in the Control Panel, and right now, I'm typing at my normal fast pace. Now, I just have to find out if Pearson's software has become compatible w/Win 8.1, and I'll know the upcoming semester will be productive!

The problem is with your laptop, NOT with Word. The fact that the cursor jumped four lines while you were typing your post to this forum, should be evidence enough of that. It will almost certainly occur if you re-install your previous version of Word as well.
Try covering the touch pad with a piece of paper or cardboard and see if that improves the situation.
Same problem with my brandnew Lenovo laptop, Win 7 with Office 2013. I called the tech and did the disabling of the touchpad but the problem is even worse now. I am used to my old word program 2002 or 3, I forget which now. How I miss it! It worked great for writing my books and now I can hardly get through a paragraph without wanting to scream. The other thing that drives me nuts is having the selection menu pop up right where I am working. Well I am stuck now. They told at the store Win 7 would not allow the old Office program so I bought the new one. I am thinking of trying to load it anyway (not by my untechie self.) BTW, the cursor just jumped up four lines while I was writing this, but I caught it. I hope they fix the problem soon.
I appreciate the fact that emails are not Microsoft Word, however, in my previous post I related that I can use any program (including email outside of Outlook) without the issue UNTIL I open one (any one) of the 2013 Office programs. After that I can no longer use other programs without the issue also. Almost like it's stuck to an "on" position and won't release the cursor....and NO I do not have a touchpad on my desktop. Matter of fact I replaced my tablet and marble mouse with another mouse to attempt a cure...only to see I've wasted my money. The problem never starts in another program at all if I do not open Office....which I do have times like that. Only once I've opened an Office 2013 program. In fact, I can work in Office 2007 without issue until I open a document created or saved in Office 2013. I'm thinking the resolve may come by just not renewing and go back to the old version and resaving my documents in the old doc format.
