I purchased the new Office 2013 to work with the Windows 8 that came with my newly purchased computer (Lenovo.)
The issues is, which has been driving me crazy over the past two months, when typing on the Word 2013, my cursor keeps jumping around on the page. For example, in the middle of my typing a sentence, the cursor would jump to three lines above in the middle of a word and continues the my input there. Whenever I see my writing in word is not changing while I definitely was typing, I will have to stop and started to examine where the words have went. After I find them five or whatever lines above, I will have to delete them, use the mouse to click the end of the writing again and trying to retype and continue to type.
I can swallow the problem if it only happens once each document, but it happens 10+ times when I type a two-page essay. I don't think the newly developed software is making my life easier but the opposite.
Does this happen to anybody else? Any clues of why or any suggestions, please?

P.s., please note that besides the letter keys I hit on the keyboard, I did not hit on any other keys such as arrow keys. Especially knowing my cursor jumps around, I am extremely careful with hitting my keys. I do not touch the mouse pad, neither.
P.s., besides jumping to other places and start insert words, sometimes the cursor would select/highlight a line or half line. If I was not aware of the change and hit a space, the whole selected lines are gone. See, I didn't know how to select lines besides using the mouse, and I did not use the mouse but simply typing, so I am very frustrated with what my cursor does to me.

The issue is due to the touch pad sensitivity. You can reduce or disable the sensitivity of touch pad from control panel-> mouse -> mouse properties. If issue still persists, check with an external keyboard.

When I first asked this question in 2013, I was using an Asus tablet. My old Gateway laptop still had Vista, so this wasn't an issue. Not until I graduated to Win 8. Today, I have a Dell and Win 10. It still happens but I know what to do for it. The most expedient thing is to use a mouse and turn the touchpad off from the Control Panel. That way, you aren't bothered at all.
Unless you need it specifically, best to turn it off and keep going. Thanks everyone, for your input.
To anyone else who happens to find this thread in a search, I invite you to examine the user profiles of Macropod (Paul Edstein), Doug Robbins, Stefan Blom and Jeff Batte, all of whom have responded and compare them to that of Mr. Bresky. Neither I nor any of the others mentioned work for Microsoft as far as I know. The others are computer professionals. I am not; I am a lawyer who dabbles. I am not particularly fond of Microsoft.
That Mr. Bresky has not participated much on this forum does not mean that he is wrong. Neither I, nor any of the other responders, has worked with the computer that is causing him the problems. I do know and respect the experience of the others, though.

Most of the problems occur on new laptops. They would normally have the latest version of Word/Office installed, so it is no surprise to me that most posts are from users of Word 2013/2016. It does not make it an Office problem. You are confusing correlation with causation.
And you are jumping to conclusions. Maybe all the posts are about Office 2013/16 because the problem exists in those versions.
I am not jumping to conclusions. You are ignoring data. Which you are, of course, free to do.
This problem has been observed in all software that I know about since the development of touchpad pointing as a part of the keyboard. It goes away when adjustments are made to that sensitivity. On my current laptop, I frequently use a separate mouse and turn off the keypad.
For your question to get more attention, please repost as a new thread, providing the necessary detail, such as version of Office, type of computer (laptop, desktop, tablet).
