Why does my cursor keeps jumping around in word

I purchased the new Office 2013 to work with the Windows 8 that came with my newly purchased computer (Lenovo.)

The issues is, which has been driving me crazy over the past two months, when typing on the Word 2013, my cursor keeps jumping around on the page. For example, in the middle of my typing a sentence, the cursor would jump to three lines above in the middle of a word and continues the my input there. Whenever I see my writing in word is not changing while I definitely was typing, I will have to stop and started to examine where the words have went. After I find them five or whatever lines above, I will have to delete them, use the mouse to click the end of the writing again and trying to retype and continue to type.

I can swallow the problem if it only happens once each document, but it happens 10+ times when I type a two-page essay. I don't think the newly developed software is making my life easier but the opposite.

Does this happen to anybody else? Any clues of why or any suggestions, please?

P.s., please note that besides the letter keys I hit on the keyboard, I did not hit on any other keys such as arrow keys. Especially knowing my cursor jumps around, I am extremely careful with hitting my keys. I do not touch the mouse pad, neither.

P.s., besides jumping to other places and start insert words, sometimes the cursor would select/highlight a line or half line. If I was not aware of the change and hit a space, the whole selected lines are gone. See, I didn't know how to select lines besides using the mouse, and I did not use the mouse but simply typing, so I am very frustrated with what my cursor does to me.

The issue is due to the touch pad sensitivity. You can reduce or disable the sensitivity of touch pad from control panel-> mouse -> mouse properties. If issue still persists, check with an external keyboard.

    Touchpads are not usually part of the keyboard at all, they are usually connected via a different cable in a laptop. The exception being trackpoints, which is only relevant if you have one. Unless you are referring to Mouse Keys (control the mouse using the numeric keypad), everything you just wrote is incorrect.

    You are the one ignoring data (the posts that say they have desktops)

    This is a desktop

    It does not have a touchpoint or trackpad. And it doesn't even have to have a mouse plugged in (which this issue still occurs with no mouse hardware attached)

    Your issue is user error, for others it is not. In your case you should look for an option that disables the touchpad while the keyboard is in use. Most touchpads have that function as long as you are using the vendor supplied driver.

    I know what a desktop computer is, although my first one was horizontal rather than vertical and had an additional optional 360K floppy drive.

    This is a legitimate issue for some, I currently have a customer with a brand new Desktop computer, and if she opens MS Word the mouse goes crazy until the computer is restarted. I REPEAT: OPENING WORD CAUSES THE PROBLEM.

    Steps to reproduce:

    1. Computer is working fine.
    2. Open word/excel/whatevercrapofficeexe
    3. Mouse goes full retard.
    4. Close office
    5. Issue persists.
    6. Reboot computer to fix.

    Notes:

    DESKTOP = no touchpad

    Brand New = Factory condition + Windows Update + MS Office

    (Nothing else installed, not even a real  web browser)

    I have this issue as well as my cursor appears active, and I cannot select text. If it was just my laptop that would be great, but it is all 3 of our computers, 1) Win7 desktop with NO touchpad, a wacom tablet and a marble mouse, 1) Win 7 desktop with NO touchpad and a laser mouse, and 1) Windows 8.1 laptop with a touchpad and usb mouse. I have uninstalled and reinstalled all the above, even to reformatting hard drive and starting over on 2 of them.

    I do not have the issue with any other software unless I use it after using Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint OneNote or Outlook 2013. If I refrain from this software, I can work all day long without issue in text editor, graphics software, email, etc. It certainly would be nice to get this issue solved, as it is a wide-spread problem.

    I am using a Desktop at work, Windows 7, Office Professional 2013. There are 3 other desktops on my floor that have the same issue. I have read many many threads on this topic with no real solution. Most of them state that it is a Laptop issue only.  I was just making a comment that it is not limited to laptops alone.
