Please help!

I am experiencing the same issue not being able to open One Note on my Mac Book Air OS X El Capitan version 10.11.6 (15G31)  I immediately receive a notice stating "Problem setting up One Note" when opening the app.

I have successfuly located/ deleted the folders listed below

• /Library/Containers/com.microsoft.onenote.mac
• ~/Library/Group\ Containers/UBF8T346G9.Office

As well a completing this step -

• Open up “Keychain Access” app on your Mac, and search for “MicrosoftOffice”. If OneNote recognized that you signed in, you will have an entry with a long name. Delete it.

After restarting my Mac and reopening the One Note app i still received the error message 

"Problem setting up One Note".

Please help or process a refund for this portion of Microsoft Office that I purchased with intent to use.

I am having the exact same issues. 

I have tried all of the steps here:

1. delete folders in Container
2. delete folders in GroupContainer
3. Blow away keychain
4. delete anything onenote related in the /var folder

I need to be able to access these notes from the OneNote for Mac client. 

Folks at Microsoft, any help or guidance would be much appreciated.

EDIT 2: 

I noticed in my App Store updates that I had two OneDrive updates. One that bumped onedrive to version 17.3 and then a later one that bumped it back to 17.0. Are there shared services between OneNote and OneDrive that could have caused OneNote to start failing. I have since uninstalled both completely, reinstalled OneNote and am getting the same issues.

to fix the issue with onenote crashed. The instructions are below

I was able to fix the crash on startup by following these steps from another thread:

• Delete this folder: ~/Library/Containers/com.microsoft.onenote.mac
• Delete this folder: ~/Library/Group\ Containers/UBF8T346G9.Office
• Open up “Keychain Access” app on your Mac, and search for “MicrosoftOffice”. If OneNote recognized that you signed in, you will have an entry with a long name. Delete it.
• Restart your computer.
• Try launching OneNote and signing in again.

And now all my onenotes are gone. How to get back my onenotes stuff
