Keyboard shortcuts reassign themselves

Word's built-in keyboard shortcuts sometimes reassign themselves.

For example, if I edit a table, such as copying and pasting cells, and return to working on the rest of the document, command-c no longer becomes available, command-v turns into "cut" and command-] becomes paste. Those functions listed in the pulldown menus no longer include those keyboard shortcuts. However, if I use the contextual menu, the cut/copy/paste functions work (and also the contextual menu lists the no longer functioning command-c/x/v shortcuts). Similar things seem to happen after I import a photo into the file.

It doesn't matter if I am working in a .doc or .docx document.

If I quit and restart the program, everything goes back to normal until I edit a table again.

This has been happening since I installed Word 2011, on my MacBook Pro and Air, and on various versions of OSX (now running 10.9.1).

Does this happen to anyone else out there?

    Depending on version of OS X please see either:

    Note that the service can be activated by inadvertently tapping fn twice.

    I'll be curious to see what happens for Jim. As I said, I've never turned mine on. Also, I have they keyboard shortcut set to "off" so hitting the fn key would do nothing.

    The apple article for OSX 9 only told how to turn dictation on. But I still have some help from my new mac, so I'll be calling apple in the next few days.

    I think that these is a correct assessment: ONLY HAPPENS FOR OSX8 & 9. And seems to be related to Dictation.

    Let me know if this is correct?

    To Turn Off just reverse the process :-)...

    1. Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Dictation & Speech, then click Dictation.
    2. Select OnOff. If a prompt appears, click EnableDisable Dictation.

    Sorry, I was sort of hoping the article would tell me how to rip "diction" out of the guts of OSX 9.

    Let the record show that "dictation" has always been turned off when the menu shortcuts became jumbled.

    I just talked to Apple, and, no surprise, they said it was a MSO problem. 

    Someone (in this forum) said that MS was aware of the issue. I wonder what they said. Also it seems to affect only late model OSX's: 8 or 9. It might be interesting to add that to the conversation.
