Word's built-in keyboard shortcuts sometimes reassign themselves.
For example, if I edit a table, such as copying and pasting cells, and return to working on the rest of the document, command-c no longer becomes available, command-v turns into "cut" and command-] becomes paste. Those functions listed in the pulldown menus no longer include those keyboard shortcuts. However, if I use the contextual menu, the cut/copy/paste functions work (and also the contextual menu lists the no longer functioning command-c/x/v shortcuts). Similar things seem to happen after I import a photo into the file.
It doesn't matter if I am working in a .doc or .docx document.
If I quit and restart the program, everything goes back to normal until I edit a table again.
This has been happening since I installed Word 2011, on my MacBook Pro and Air, and on various versions of OSX (now running 10.9.1).
Does this happen to anyone else out there?

I wonder if the keyboard shortcuts reassignments occur in the new Word (Office 2016, v15.latest)?

Already seeing some reviews of it but, of course, they fail to examine long-standing glitches, lost good features, etc.
With luck, though, one in the know will report on it!
I have had several non-answers from ms about this issue, and it still recurs. cmd-C becomes cut, cmd-X becomes something else, but cntrl-c works as copy, etc.
Yes, I moved normal.xx files out of the way, yes, I fixed fonts (no problems), yes, I restarted, reinstalled Office, called MS, and NO, it did not fix itself.
This is DEFINITELY a BUG. No Doubt.

A recent suggestion was to change the Dictate settings. I have tried it. It did not change the symptoms completely, but it appears to have reduced the number of times that this happens by about 5%. This is not, sadly, a big help. Again, there is no obvious fix, on any board I have found.

Madeline is correct! Also, I truly wish that MVPs would listen a bit more. Madeline and others have been reporting this for years. I started reporting it everywhere including to MS since 2011 came out in late 2011.
This bug, plus a bug where Find/Replace will not replace when you push 'Replace', unless you click outside of the button then back on the 'Replace' button - very odd, and very repeatedly.
You might think that this is a simple error --- I can get it to repeat on different machines, Even with new installs of MS Office 2011, and even with brand new machines. It starts after you use tables - big tables or big documents - and it is repeatable. I have been using Word since 1984, etc. I have been an Apple Developer since 1979. I've owned Apple II, Lisa, Mac (1984), and nearly every mac since. It is a BUG. Respect Madeline, and FIND AN ANSWER for those of us who will never buy in to 365 subscriptions.
I agree that the shortcut self-reassignment problem is related to big tables and dictation status is at most a minor influence.
I've pretty much stopped using this site because none of the proposed solutions seemed to resolve the problem. Unfortunately, when you write proposals there is no way to avoid big tables and this infuriating problem.
Has this changed with Office 2016? I don't know. I've tried switching to that but there are other issues that keep me using Office 2011. For somethings, I still use the Windows Office 2007 or 8 (or whatever) with VirtualBox.
It would be interesting to hear if the shortcut self-reassignment problem were solved in Word 2016 .
