Hi

As per the description you are facing issue while trying to access the Excel program. Let me assist you with the issue.

Does the error pop up as soon as you click on the Excel program to open or once the Excel is opened?

Try the steps below and check if it helps:

Step 1:

Try to open Excel in safe mode and check if it opens:

· Hold Windows key + R.

· Copy and paste, or type the following command in the Open box, and then press Enter:

Excel /safe

Note: There is space between Excel and**/**

If the issue does not occur in Excel safe, then try to disable add-ins associated with Excel 2013 and check the result.

· Click on File menu, Options and then Add-ins.

· Click on Go button besides Manage: Com-in Add.

· Check if there are add-ins listed, clear the checkbox to disable them.

Step 2:

If the above step fails, try the step below:

Right click on Excel (.exe) > Properties > Compatibility > uncheck all the boxes, click Ok and check if it helps.

To access Excel (.exe), open the following location:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office15\Excel.exe

Or

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 15\Root\Office15\Excel.exe

Try to open Excel and check if it opens.

I hope the above steps helps. If you need further assistance on this particular issue or any other Office related issues let us know and we will be glad to assist you.

Thank you.

I had tried this but there was no 'compatability' after properties.

I just upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 7 and am receiving the same error message when attempting to open Excel. Neither step 1 (safe mode) nor step 2 work.  I receive the same error message when attempting to open in safe mode and when right-clicking on Excel.exe in the file directory, I am not given an option for "Compatibility".  Instead, I see an option for "Troubleshoot Compatibility".  When I select this, it invokes a compatibility checker and asks which version of Windows last worked.  I select "Windows 7" and it implies that compatibility settings are being changed, but the error persists.  I am not given the option to manually check or uncheck any compatibility settings.

    copy that.

Does anyone have a clue as to what this problem is.  My office 365 was working last week, suddenly it's not.  Does it have anything to do with a windows update?

I am experiencing this problem with Excel 2013 on Windows 8.  It just started suddenly over the past few days.  I attempted step one to no avail.

    I attempted your step 2:

"Right click on Excel (.exe) > Properties > Compatibility > uncheck all the boxes, click Ok and check if it helps."

however, when I go to "Properties", there is no place to access "Compatibility"; so I am unsure what to do?  Any help?  Thank you.
