Hi

As per the description you are facing issue while trying to access the Excel program. Let me assist you with the issue.

Does the error pop up as soon as you click on the Excel program to open or once the Excel is opened?

Try the steps below and check if it helps:

Step 1:

Try to open Excel in safe mode and check if it opens:

· Hold Windows key + R.

· Copy and paste, or type the following command in the Open box, and then press Enter:

Excel /safe

Note: There is space between Excel and**/**

If the issue does not occur in Excel safe, then try to disable add-ins associated with Excel 2013 and check the result.

· Click on File menu, Options and then Add-ins.

· Click on Go button besides Manage: Com-in Add.

· Check if there are add-ins listed, clear the checkbox to disable them.

Step 2:

If the above step fails, try the step below:

Right click on Excel (.exe) > Properties > Compatibility > uncheck all the boxes, click Ok and check if it helps.

To access Excel (.exe), open the following location:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office15\Excel.exe

Or

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 15\Root\Office15\Excel.exe

Try to open Excel and check if it opens.

I hope the above steps helps. If you need further assistance on this particular issue or any other Office related issues let us know and we will be glad to assist you.

Thank you.

On step 2, you say Right click on Excel (.exe) > Properties > Compatibility > uncheck all the boxes, click Ok and check if it helps.

There is however no "Compatibility" tab under Excel Properties.

    My Excel is 2016.

I STILL cannot get Excel or Word to work on my Toshiba laptop. I bought it last year and just purchased it again this year (Office 2016.)

This time I installed it once, and it didn't work.

Then I did a complete Uninstall of the old program and did it again.

It STILL gives me the same error message:

"We're sorry, but Excel has run into an error that is preventing it from running correctly. Excel will need to be closed as a result. Would you like us to repair it now?"

It does not matter if I click on Repair Now or Close -- nothing changes. It refuses to work properly.

It does the same thing in Safe mode. I followed the instructions to uncheck any boxes in Properties > Compatibility, but there were no boxes checked.

Ridiculous to spend $100 on a program that refuses to run. I've already used up two of my downloads trying to get this to work.

Excel.exe doesn't show up.   I found exe.bak and exe.manifest, but no just .exe

Not sure why.  Any other ways to repair this problem?

Both suggestions did not fix the problem.  Just started happening today, August 18, 2017 though I have not used Excel on this PC for a few days.
