Hi

As per the description you are facing issue while trying to access the Excel program. Let me assist you with the issue.

Does the error pop up as soon as you click on the Excel program to open or once the Excel is opened?

Try the steps below and check if it helps:

Step 1:

Try to open Excel in safe mode and check if it opens:

· Hold Windows key + R.

· Copy and paste, or type the following command in the Open box, and then press Enter:

Excel /safe

Note: There is space between Excel and**/**

If the issue does not occur in Excel safe, then try to disable add-ins associated with Excel 2013 and check the result.

· Click on File menu, Options and then Add-ins.

· Click on Go button besides Manage: Com-in Add.

· Check if there are add-ins listed, clear the checkbox to disable them.

Step 2:

If the above step fails, try the step below:

Right click on Excel (.exe) > Properties > Compatibility > uncheck all the boxes, click Ok and check if it helps.

To access Excel (.exe), open the following location:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office15\Excel.exe

Or

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 15\Root\Office15\Excel.exe

Try to open Excel and check if it opens.

I hope the above steps helps. If you need further assistance on this particular issue or any other Office related issues let us know and we will be glad to assist you.

Thank you.

    Hi,

I am running Windows 10 and having the same error when attempting to use Excel 2016, I've attempted to change the program's compatibility mode through troubleshooting with no luck, there is also no option within the properties window to change compatibility.

I'm not the most IT literate of people and I'm completely stumped, I would greatly appreciate any ideas and/ or help!

    Not helpful reply:

In c drive searched on excel.exe and found it in:

    c:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\root\Office16

right clicked to properties and there just aint no compatability choice.

I just click fix/repair when i try to open excel each time and it seems to save my work ok.  This is part of Office 360 subscription.

I am a little tired of all these complicated instructions that average layman is not used to performing.  Why can't they test this stuff before release.  IF a problem does arise why can't microsoft develop a script to run to diagnose and fix the problem.

    Gee whilikers people :(
