Please try to uninstall Microsoft office 2010 from program list in Programs and features. It will appear there with most recent date of installation. After uninstall of that application, Microsoft office 2010 Starter should work as before the update.

*This will not uninstall your office starter

Detailed steps:

  1. Click Start, then click Uninstall program if you cannot see it click “Programs and features”
  2. Click Control Panel
  3. Click “Uninstall program” if you do not see it click “Programs and features”
  4. On the program list locate “Microsoft office 2010” not “Microsoft office 2010 Starter”
  5. Right click Microsoft office 2010 and click on uninstall option
  6. When uninstall finishes restart windows

This procedure eliminates Microsoft Office 2010 Starter, for which can not be re-installed.

All was fine till yesterday when it automatically installed updates now I have the same problem as above.

I've had a look below but am confused as to what to do.

Can someone please tell me in VERY simple basic steps how to resolve the problem.

I have some computer knowledge but not a lot!

    Thanks

The very same thing has happened to me following an update. I called microsoft and was told my computer was infected, and that was the problem I was on the phone for nearly an hour whilest whoever was at the othe end ran checks).  It was then suggested I should sign up to their magnificient virus/malware/adware/spyware protection scheme for the ultimate protection for a "one off" payment of £319.99 for three years cover. It was just through perseverance that I discovered I could get into my documents by "right clicking" and opening with "client virtualization handler"   What caused theis change, and why???  how many other's has theis affected and how many  have payed the £319.99 ( approx $400,00)  to have it sorted!!
