excel skips to another workbook for no apparent reason

I have just discovered a work around for this problem.

For the last few hours excel has been jumping worksheets almost every time I hit enter.

You can guess I feel like smashing my computer when it gets this bad well...

I have at present four workbooks open (of course that's my prerogative), all of them are full screen.

I was getting really annoyed with Micosoft when, I restored down the workbook it was jumping to... and guess what?

It stopped jumping... I am only guessing here... but try keeping the workbook you are working on full screen and restore down all other workbooks.

If that doesn't work... you won't hear from me again because I will have smashed my computer.

I've had this problem ever since I was given Excel 2013 at work. I tolerated it for a while but it drives me nuts now. It didn't happen in the decades of Excel past, why is it happening now?

I think the problem is big enough to deserve a proper response from Microsoft, why aren't they responding? It's obviously a defect. No other program does this. Does Microsoft not care, or is it a conflict at fundamental level in Windows that it can't resolve easily?

Type in a cell and press enter - the text is not in that cell but can be found in another worksheet - apparently the prior worksheet that was active before switching to the sheet where the text is being entered.

2. Did you try any troubleshooting steps?

Tried several which is how I found it appears to be the prior active worksheet (which could be in another workbook). Note that it is random and not easy to recreate.

I've had this with Excel 2013 and now in Excel 2016 (i keep current on updates so it was several releases of each and is still occurring).

Excel randomly stops responding (text or numbers typed don't appear in the active workbook). Hitting enter or double-clicking into a cell takes you to another workbook (the last active workbook prior to the current one).

2. Did you try any troubleshooting steps?

Event happens at random. No obvious causes, so no obvious troubleshooting steps to try.

3. What is the version of Excel 2013 are you using?

Excel 2013 (15.0.4787.1002) 32-bit. This has been happening since upgrading to Office 2013.
