Quite often when I try to make an entry into a cell excel appears to freeze. If I hit the enter button it skips to a different workbook. There are no links between the two workbooks. This has been happening for some time and is very annoying.

Can somebody from MS solve this problem?! It pissed me off whenever the excel freeze and jump to another worksheet when i hit the enter key! The question already been here for a long time and there is no solution since 2015?
I had said previously that this problem went away after I removed an addon for Thomson One. While the problem didn't occur for months after I removed the addon, the problem just happened again last week. I checked and I only have the Microsoft addons. Microsoft, please if you are listening, please fix this problem.
I use Sheets exclusively for personal use. It lags in some areas, but nothing major. Gets the job done and it's portable and user friendly. However, the working world still uses Microsoft products, so some of us just have to deal with the issue whether we like it or not, which is unfortunate. Good luck to you with Sheets. I've always been more a Google fan than Microsoft fan anyway.
I have to agree. I will be canceling my office 365 subscription next year. If you don't like the product then quit paying for it is my stance. Time to look at google sheets and see if that will do the job for me. Using excel has me concerned I will corrupt my data.

I have come to the conclusion that Microsoft knew all along and want us to only use one workbook at a time.
