excel skips to another workbook for no apparent reason

Quite often when I try to make an entry into a cell excel appears to freeze.  If I hit the enter button it skips to a different workbook.  There are no links between the two workbooks.  This has been happening for some time and is very annoying.

I have had the same problem for a while.  Early on I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Windows 365.  I usually have three or four spreadsheets open at the same time and the problem happens multiple times a day.  When is Microsoft going to fix this?  Has anyone had any experience updating to Office 2016?  Does it do the same thing?

I normally only have one spreadsheet maximized at a time. Usually only two when doing side by side comparison, so I doubt that is the answer for the fix. It may solve your problem with happening often because multiple are maximized, but it still happens.

    Thanks for the feedback!

This drives me insane. Is there still no answer or fix? The sheet I'm working in will all of a sudden l do nothing - its basically frozen. Then I go to any other open spreadsheet and type a character (it will let me type in another sheet) - delete it and go back to the worksheet I want and then it lets me use the sheet I was working in to begin with. So frustrating! It randomly happens, probably once per day. I can't figure out why, though.

It has been over a year since I got 2013 on my new computer ( what a joke ).  I notice this problem with several others immediately, and I responded to Microsoft through their new app evaluation with no response from them.

This problem is totally frustrating I never know when I am typing in excel where I will end up.  I consider a major issue, but Microsoft with market domination is not doing anything.  This is a basic fundamental operation of the software is that the user can rely on where they are entering data.

It is broken!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! When will they fix it?????????? -- Here is an idea go back to where it is still working and return everyone's money for pushing everyone into some idiots brain fart so Microsoft can make more sells

Let take 2010 make a few changes and make all our loyal customer give us more money.  Who cares if the basic functionality is broken.

I HAVE ENOUGH THINGS TO WORRY ABOUT ALREADY THAN THE PROGRAM JUMPING WORKBOOKS ON ITS OWN!!!!
