Something went wrong while downloading your template

Hello,

Word, Excel and Powerpoint 2013 offer the new "Start Page" when launching the program. When clicking on a supplied template to open it, the process fails and gives the error message - "Something went wrong while downloading your template". We had the same issue with online templates in Office 2010. Has anyone had this same issue and is there a fix for it? We use Sophos Endpoint Security for anti-virus. Thanks.

If you try downloading the template manually from http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/templates/?CTT=97, does that work?

Yes, I can download templates from the address that you posted.

    Uninstalling Visio Viewer 2013 fixed this for me, too !

    In our case this issue appears to have been caused by having Office 2013 32bit & Visio Viewer 2013 64bit on Windows 7 64bit.  

    Removing Visio Viewer 64bit and installing Visio Viewer 32bit seems to have fixed it.  I'm assuming the 64bit version of Visio Viewer was mangling the Office paths somewhere.

    We dont have Visio Viewer in our organization installed on any of our machines and still had the same issue. This is what worked for us: 

    With Office 2013 if you go to File --> Options --> Trust Center --> Privacy Options and UNCHECK Allow Office to Connect to the Internet it should fix this. 

    You should close the application and re-open to test. You also have to do it for Word, Excel etc. separately. 

    I believe this is a programming bug where the statement is inverse of what it should be. OR The text label for the checkbox should be "do not allow office to connect to the internet"..

    We tried this on several machines this morning and it worked on all of them.
