Hello,
Word, Excel and Powerpoint 2013 offer the new "Start Page" when launching the program. When clicking on a supplied template to open it, the process fails and gives the error message - "Something went wrong while downloading your template". We had the same issue with online templates in Office 2010. Has anyone had this same issue and is there a fix for it? We use Sophos Endpoint Security for anti-virus. Thanks.

If you try downloading the template manually from http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/templates/?CTT=97, does that work?

We have resolved the issue now, thanks for your help.
none of the suggested fixes are working for me. the templates i am looking for are never on the free template list. i gave up and just don't use templates any more. now i'm back again because i really need a template that is AGAIN not listed in the online microsoftoffice.com site. an IT person here tried to get this fixed for me and did some quick firewall checks and did the reinstall, and i myself did every single suggestion that's on this thread except for visio since that program is not even on my PC. nothing has worked.
please someone any other suggestions? i saw a branchcache or whatever on an online thread and it isn't even clear how in the world to attempt that. it seemed very involved and people assume you are a techy and never provide clear step by step instructions.
i hope they get a fix for this. thanks for any help.
Uninstall Visio Viewer 2013. In most cases there is no uninstall button, so you'll need to uninstall via the MSI file.
Unfortunately I cannot remember the name of the .msi. I found it by going to
C:>Windows>Installer
Type "visio" in the explorer search box on the upper right side of the screen
hover over each icon to determine which is visio 2013 and get rid of it.

Am having the same issue with Office 2013 and office 2016.
I've already tried all suggestion but still its not working. Only the workaround is working that is downloading from the portal. https://templates.office.com/.
But we want to download it directly through the application (Excel)
Office Professional Plus with office 365 E3 license
Install on a new computer with all uddates.
Visio viewer disable
Any other suggestion please.
