I just upgraded to a full version of MS Office 2013. I am using Word and notice two things. One, it is not auto-correcting misspelled words as I type, and two, when I go to the "Review" tab and select "Spelling and Grammar" to do a spell check, it says "Spelling and grammar complete. You're good to go!" This is not correct.
I've gone to the Options menu. Autocorrect is turned on. Nothing else seems to make logical sense to me.
Is anyone else having this issue? Can someone help? I NEED my spell check.

The spell-check language in my Word installation defaults to French. Even after changing to English (U.S.) in the "Set proofing language" dialog box, the spell-checker stays stuck in French. Is this a bug? Is there a patch or something to fix this?
See Mastering the Spelling Checker. The thing is that proofing language is very much like a character formatting. It can be applied to a single character. When that is copied, it can carry this with it.
The language formatting can be contained in paragraph or character Styles. Getting rid of a language formatting setting completely can be a long process involving cleaning styles in existing documents and templates.
I just figured it out. In Word 2013, select the review tab, click "language". select "set proofing language" then uncheck the first box at the bottom of the box that says "do not check spelling or grammar." that will fix your problem!

Boy I have spent two days trying to figure out what was going on. I have been using this laptop for last 6 months, it is a Lenovo Yoga and worked great until I was asked that I needed to upgrade my Java, then it was down hill from there. I followed your advice and low and behold the fix works!!! Thanks for the tip and being on the web for help should have done this a few days ago...
