spell check is not working...how do I turn it on? (MS Word 2013)

I just upgraded to a full version of MS Office 2013. I am using Word and notice two things. One, it is not auto-correcting misspelled words as I type, and two, when I go to the "Review" tab and select "Spelling and Grammar" to do a spell check, it says "Spelling and grammar complete. You're good to go!" This is not correct.

I've gone to the Options menu. Autocorrect is turned on. Nothing else seems to make logical sense to me.

Is anyone else having this issue? Can someone help? I NEED my spell check.

Thank you

PS. My OS is Win7, 64-bit and I'm using Office 2013.

Me 2 just up to 2013 spell a auto-correcting Not working, and i went to Catholic school.

This is the 80th reply in an old thread. You will get more help if you post a new question saying what you want to have happen, what you have tried to make that happen, and what you are getting instead. (Catholic school will not change the answers you get.)

I just figured it out. In Word 2013, select the review tab, click "language". select "set proofing language" then uncheck the first box at the bottom of the box that says "do not check spelling or grammar." that will fix your problem!

Not helpful.  Tried twice with no positive results.  Any new instructions to help me get this BASIC function of Word to work?

Please read Mastering the Spelling Checker .

If you cannot get it to work for you, I suggest posting a new question giving details of what you have tried and what you are seeing. You are likely to get more and quicker answers that way.

I keep trying to change the check box in the proofing language, but when I look back at the box its checked again, and yes I did set it as default then clicked ok, so i have no idea.
