spell check is not working...how do I turn it on? (MS Word 2013)

I just upgraded to a full version of MS Office 2013. I am using Word and notice two things. One, it is not auto-correcting misspelled words as I type, and two, when I go to the "Review" tab and select "Spelling and Grammar" to do a spell check, it says "Spelling and grammar complete. You're good to go!" This is not correct.

I've gone to the Options menu. Autocorrect is turned on. Nothing else seems to make logical sense to me.

Is anyone else having this issue? Can someone help? I NEED my spell check.

Thank you

PS. My OS is Win7, 64-bit and I'm using Office 2013.

I am having the same issue with Microsoft 2013. I have followed the link and every other suggestion... what needs to be checked is checked and what needs to be unchecked is.. still highlighting obviously wrong spelled words and told I am good to go.

Select just one of those obviously misspelled words. Check the language formatting for that word. Is "Do not check spelling or grammar" checked or not clear?

I'm sure this is the link you are talking about. It is the authority on this subject.

I just tried this and the box was not checked. I can blatantly misspell a word and it does not catch it.   I am noticing as well that when it asks me to recheck, it seems to catch words that are not under bullets but any word in a bullet, it seems to ignore.... Frustrating.

Check the language setting for the style that is used for the bulleted paragraphs.
